My wife and I have always loved traveling. We have been all over the world together, and separately before we met each other. We realized, though, that there were large parts of our own country — the beautiful United States — that neither of us had discovered. One day we simply made the decision to do just that. We began working on the road.
We rented out our home in Portland, Oregon and told our friends and family that we’d do this for a year. Six months into it, we realized a year would never be enough! We had barely made it out of Utah (which, by the way, is an amazing state). Now it’s been two years and we have decided to leave it open-ended. We will know when we are done, but it isn’t going to be anytime soon.
While on the road, I got my Ham radio license, wrote a book, and started an e-commerce business. The book is called “The New American Dream: Finding Lifestyle Freedom on the Road.” In it, I interviewed 25 full-time traveling RVers between the ages of 24 and 70 and asked them questions about how and why they do what they do. The book is designed to be both educational and inspirational. It’s available on Amazon as a kindle and paperback if you are interested.
The e-commerce business is a storefront for hemp CBD products. I love reinventing myself, and really love that I can do all this while traveling. The Store is www.en-live-en.com.
In terms of our traveling rhythm, we usually stay in one place (a state park or boondocking) for 10-14 days. Then we will spend one night in an RV park to dump, fill up, and do laundry. But, for the summer we have decided to be camp hosts at Big Arm State Park on Flathead Lake in Montana. It’s a lot of work, more than we anticipated, but the location is amazing.
After this, we will be working for a few weeks at the Sugar Beet Harvest. A new reinvention of ourselves!
After that, who knows?! That’s what we truly love — the unknown!
Enjoy your travels!
